My high school experience has proven to be very interesting so far. I have been exposed to new expectations, more rigorous coursework, and changing relations. My freshmen and sophomore years seem to have just flown by in comparison to this year, my junior year; the first two years in high school had, in a sense, just been spent in establishing myself and setting realistic goals for the near future.
Throughout those two years, a certain class had helped in any aspect I needed assistance in—Avid. In the beginning, that class was not very functional in the sense of being a true Avid class, but it did expose me to different people and build up my very own support system. Then, in the end of my sophomore year, the class was reconstructed; we were told that beginning junior year, many students would be leaving Avid and new ones were to be added in their place, along with a new facilitator. At first I was worried as to how much our class structure would change and if I would to continue being a part of Avid, but I decided to stick through it. Mrs. Torres has helped me in ways that I would not have expected—from completely haywire class schedules to staying on pace, she has helped me. She has become another support system for me.
Junior year is whole another story. The coursework has become more rigorous along with the work load. However, I am very happy with my pick of classes because they challenge like my previous classes had failed to do. I am looking forward to the end of the year just to see how much I will grow—both as a person and academically.
